This is a nice update to the “Millennium Angels” (*music plays* Lucy Liu… our girl Drew… Cameron D and Destiny). I don’t see what the fuss is all about bombing & men don’t like girl power movies. The premise was great, callbacks were cool, answering previous ‘wonderings’ was a good step for future outings!
Story was meh… a bit predictable… borderline making my eyes roll! Fight sequences were pretty creative & girl-fancy. I wished they could have lasted longer, cause the antagonist was a believable badass… much like how Justin Theroux was in CA: Full Throttle!
The score was great because it’s Brian Tyler huhu (means good action feels!) Pair that up with the amazing Sony Music music catalogue (from then & now)… it’s not hard to set the mood of the movie and throw up the stylistic independent woman… girl power swag in!
The cast was very interesting! Great chemistry and I can’t hold back any longer to SHOUT!! WELCOME BACK KRISTEN STEWARD! If this is your return from “exile”, good job to you or your agent for choosing this. I think you’re on the Leonardo DiCaprio comeback path! (Titanic nearly killed his career) Twilight nearly killed your career (+ *ahem* minor Scandal too) but what a great role for you here! It’s great to see you dorky, fearless, bad ass, vulnerable, seductive and most of all… Empowered from your past! The sky is the limit for u Kristen!
If Zoe Saldana can be Gamora (most feared woman in the Marvel Cosmic Universe) I don’t see why Ella can’t be a MI6 material! Tall, pretty, agile, convincing with guns and… that English accent!! huhu Naomi is basically us in this time & age! Nerd genius, super-hot but played down by lab coat or less feminine attire xD Strong moral compass – doing the right thing kinda gal!
My conclusion: all in I think the movie deserved a better director. A director who could elaborate & elevate the action sequences to a certain level in which it could be eligible for Saturn Awards maybe? hehe This movie had some pretty cool ideas for good fight scenes & action sequences already. Mind you I just recently rewatched Mission Impossible: 4 – 6 on cable and John Wick 3. The action ideas here were cool but didn’t have it’s even weight of girl-power swag to it. Also, the McG Millennium Angels shows were rerun on cable and I could clearly see the contrast! CA2019 is not far off from that recipe, it just lacked the stylistic awe that a better action director would have caught.
Still, this movie has much potential for a sequel. I think this chapter set a lot of things straight and has prepared the way for a new string of stories… provided it’s deemed successful. Nothing is sure for Sony Pictures as only just 4 years ago, they thought of selling off this entire movie production arm.
Finally, if you’re not sure to watch or not… Girls showing how it’s done – hopping thru scenic Europe – tossing around witty (cheesy?) millennial lines – and edited with the entire Sony Music music catalogue at their disposal – it’s bound to be grooving-ly cool! Give this movie a chance… give Kristen a 2nd chance ❤ ❤ ❤ After watching this movie, that song “How It’s Done” calls me everyday!! A worthy 10-years-later-update to the and groove to Destiny’s Child – Independent Women!
6.5 / 10 but because it’s Kristen BIG comeback – I give it a 7️⃣ / 🔟
